Kenya defender David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng believes Harambee Stars have what it takes to cruise past Comoros in Sunday’s 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Nyayo Stadium.
The Saudi Arabia-based player has urged fans to turn out in large numbers to cheer the home team to victory in their debut game in the qualifying campaign for the 30th edition of the showpiece continental football tournament.
“We are going into this campaign from a successful CECAFA (zonal tournament) which we won last year. I believe this gives us the necessary momentum to ride over Comoros.
“We need the fans to rally behind us to motivate us to succeed,” Ochieng told Cafonline.com.
The 21-year old has admitted little knowledge about their opponents, but they are determined to secure a convincing result to make the return fixture a mere formality.
“We don’t know much about them but our focus is to win at home” whilst regretting the absence goalkeeper, Arnold Origi, due to club commitments in Norway.
“He has been an instrumental part of the team and we will miss him.”
On head coach, Adel Amrouche, Ochieng said “He (Amrouche) has been like a father to all of us.
“He has built a cord of friendship between the players in camp, whether a foreign player or local player. This has in turn built a sense of family and team work, which is responsible for the success we are enjoying,” he concluded.
