Relationship with Allison Transmission Moves Forward with Agreement Endorsing and Recognizing Odyne’s Unique Hybrid System Globally.
Waukesha, WI, April 08, 2014 –(PR.com)– Allison Transmission, Inc. has globally endorsed the use of 3000 and 4000 Series transmissions with the Odyne hybrid system as the exclusively-approved PTO-based hybrid system.
In 2011, Odyne introduced an innovative plug-in hybrid power system which interfaces with the Allison family of commercial vehicle transmissions. In July of 2012, Allison Transmission invested in a non-controlling equity stake in Odyne Systems, LLC. The initial relationship related to hybrid systems for the 2000 Series Allison transmission, which was now expanded to include the 3000 and 4000 Series Allison transmissions at the completion of design reviews for those products.
Joe Dalum, President of Odyne Systems, commented, “Odyne is very pleased that Allison Transmission, the world’s largest manufacturer of fully automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy- duty commercial vehicles, has endorsed and recognized Odyne globally. This relationship opens a very large addressable market for our company. Our system was specifically designed to provide strong increases in fuel efficiency and reductions in overall emissions while preserving the Allison transmission warranty. When combined with the superior performance of Allison transmissions, the Odyne system provides unmatched advantages that help companies and communities meet sustainability objectives, lower costs and reduce work site noise.”
The Odyne hybrid power system features proprietary and patented hybrid technology combining reliable electric power conversion, power control and energy storage technology. The system interfaces with Allison Transmission’s industry leading fully-automatic transmissions.
Hybrid energy is captured using Remy advanced electric propulsion motors with industry leading power density and efficiency, Johnson Controls lithium-ion battery technology and other robust, automotive quality components. The unique PTO interface provides a direct connection between the hybrid system and the transmission, enabling improved driving fuel efficiency. When the truck is stationary, Odyne’s hybrid system and ePTO can power most equipment for the entire work day with the engine off. The Odyne plug-in hybrid drive system reduces fleet operating and maintenance costs, and depending on duty cycle, enables large trucks to obtain fuel economy improvements of up to 50% compared to traditional diesel or gasoline engines. Odyne continues to be the only plug-in hybrid system on a medium- or heavy-duty truck to deliver greater fuel efficiency both while driving and at the work site.
In 2013, Odyne Systems was selected to participate in a $45.4 million U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) award to develop and deploy plug-in hybrid systems for over 120 trucks for companies and governmental entities throughout North America.
