Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to Governor Dapo Abiodun in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area have taken to the street to protest the alleged substitution of their names as executive officers in the recent APC ward and local government congresses.
The Abiodun loyalists on Wednesday besieged the Ijebu-Ode Local Government secretariat, chanting, “Say no to kangaroo exco.”
InfoStride News reports that the APC faction lamented that their list of party executive officers elected during the congress had been substituted for another.
With placards, the protesters from the 11 wards of Ijebu-Ode threatened not to accept any other party officials aside the ones elected by their faction.
“We are the majority, minority cannot rule over majority. Our congresses were supervised by INEC officials. We say no to kangaroo exco. Consensus is based on majority. These other people are just two per cent. Save APC, Dapo Abiodun. Ijebu-Ode is boiling. We want the local government Chairman to know that this is a peaceful protest of all the 11 wards in Ijebu-Ode. We want to show our grievances that the majority in Ijebu-Ode will not accept any kangaroo exco,” the protesters yelled as they gathered at the local government secretariat.
Addressing the APC members, the Executive Chairman of Ijebu-Ode, Hon. Emilola Gazal, charged them to remain calm, saying he was aware of their complaints.
“I understand all you have said. I know more than you think I know. But, when people go to war, they will still come to a round table to settle their differences, even after killing people. Why didn’t they do the round table before going to war? I understand everything you meant by kangaroo exco because I am one of you. Learn a lesson from my story. I was just favoured. Whatever God has written shall come to pass. It is God that enthrones a leader. I want to beg you to remain calm,” Gazal pleaded.
InfoStride News recalls that the two APC factions loyal to Gov Abiodun and Sen. Ibikunle Amosun had held parallel congresses in Ogun.
On Saturday, the APC congress appeal committee in Ogun State hinted that the party factions in Ogun State may consider a sharing formula to settle the issue amicably.
