The Ogun State Government has issued a stern warning against erecting buildings on lands belonging to government-owned primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Sakirudeen Salaam, delivered the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, on Thursday.
Salaam highlighted that preventive measures, such as fencing school boundaries and conducting official land surveys, are essential to curb illegal developments within school premises.

Speaking at the meeting, the Registrar of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ibogun Campus, Bayo Orukotan, called for greater synergy among government agencies to combat encroachment and unauthorized structures.
Also addressing stakeholders, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Enforcement and Compliance, Babatunde Olugbewesa, emphasized the importance of reporting dilapidated structures in government schools to prevent disasters.
The warning comes amid the state government’s ongoing efforts to enforce the Safe School Initiative.
In 2024, a government task force demolished over 300 shanties and illegal structures around school fences and road setbacks in Abeokuta, the state capital.
InfoStride News reports that the demolition exercise is aimed at enhancing security and providing a conducive teaching and learning environment for students.
