At the Ogun State governorship election petition tribunal, Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called Adesina Oladele Sakiru, a civil servant from Makun, Sagamu, to testify against Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The election at Sakiru’s polling unit in Makun was disrupted by thugs, according to testimony he gave to the tribunal on Wednesday as a PDP polling agent.
“We had to run for our lives,” he said.
Akintunde Akinsanya, a fish farmer from the same Makun, testified under cross-examination that he is not a member of the PDP but voted for Adebutu on March 18.
When asked why he decided to testify, Akinsanya said, “because my vote did not count when the election was disrupted.”
The tribunal heard similar testimony from Akeem Awotunbo of Iperu in the Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State and Omobolanle Shittu of Sagamu, both of whom claimed that ballots had been nullified as a result of the interruption.
Meanwhile, petitioners’ attorney Gordy Uche praised his clients for their impressive showing at the Ogun tribunal, where they presented testimony from more than seventy witnesses.
All the witnesses who have testified so far, according to the media, have confirmed that ballots were thrown out at their voting places.
