Former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, praising his commitment to “politics without bitterness.”
Ohakim described Onu as a rare gem whose wisdom and experience are sorely missed in Nigeria’s current state.
In a statement, the former governor called on Nigerians to honor Onu’s memory by embracing the ideals he stood for.

According to Ohakim, “Dr. Onu was a fine gentleman, unassuming and lived truly to the ambiance of politics without bitterness.”
He added, “Nigeria has lost a rear gem whose maturity, brilliance, and wealth of experience in National service is highly needed during this most crucial period of our collective existence.”
Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia State, passed away in Abuja on Thursday after battling an undisclosed illness.
He was known for his principled stance and last made headlines during the APC primary election in 2022, where he criticized perceived injustices against the Southeast.
Onu’s legacy of political grace and intellectual rigor has left an indelible mark on Nigerian politics, and his absence will be keenly felt by all who knew him.
