The Enugu State chapter of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has lauded Governor Peter Mbah’s administration for restoring normalcy in the state by ending the reign of “unknown gunmen” and the regular Monday sit-at-home order.
In a statement issued on Sunday, signed by Dr. Okey Adenyi, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State chapter, and Rt. Hon. Bonaventure Onuh, the Secretary, the group commended Governor Mbah for his decisive actions, which have restored socio-economic activities in the state.
The statement recalled that upon assuming office, Governor Mbah declared that the sit-at-home order would no longer be tolerated, marking it as one of his first executive directives.

This move has since seen life return to normal on Mondays in Enugu, with businesses and public activities resuming fully.
Ohanaeze dismissed claims by the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) that urged Governor Mbah to prioritize security, labeling the call as baseless and aimed at clout chasing.
“For record purposes, prior to Governor Mbah’s assumption of office, ‘unknown gunmen’ were wreaking havoc in the state, designating Mondays as ‘sit-at-home’ day and disrupting socio-economic activities,” the statement read.
It noted that under Mbah’s administration, the sit-at-home order has been eradicated through collaboration with security agencies, ensuring that Enugu residents now enjoy their constitutional right to freedom of movement without harassment.
“Indeed, normalcy has returned to Enugu, and this is evident and attested to by Ndi Enugu.
No amount of propaganda or paid media publications from the Ohanaeze Youth Council can change these facts,” the group emphasized.
Ohanaeze highlighted several measures taken by Governor Mbah to boost security in the state, including the installation of high-powered CCTV cameras, the establishment of a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre, and the deployment of 150 patrol vehicles equipped with AI-embedded surveillance cameras.
“Governor Mbah has raised the bar very high on the issue of security,” the group stated.
Addressing allegations that South-East governors were sabotaging efforts to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Ohanaeze defended Governor Mbah, describing him as a strong advocate for Kanu’s release.
“Governor Mbah has been working tirelessly, in collaboration with other South-East governors, to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
At the recent Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide election, he emphasized the need to engage the federal government towards this goal,” the statement added.
The group called on youths to channel their energy toward meaningful endeavors and avoid inflammatory statements that could cause unrest or panic.
“The energy dissipated in making unfounded allegations could, if properly channeled, better their lives and contribute positively to society,” the statement concluded.
