Igbo youths under the aegis of Ohaneze Youth Council, OYC, have described as treasonable, the recent two-weeks ultimatum issued by Arewa Youth Development Foundation to Southerners residing in the North, to quit or face dire consequences.
AYDF had last week during a protest in Kano against the purported registration and issuance of identity cards to northerners resident in one of the South-East states, called for dissolution of Nigeria so that the various regions could go their separate ways.
The Northern youths also gave all southerners living in the North two weeks to quit to make room for their brothers and sisters living in the South whom they had also mandated to return home.
In a related development, Deputy National Secretary of the apex northern socio-political organization, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Abubakar Umar in Kaduna last weekend, allegedly warned Ndigbo to stop intimidating Hausas living in South-East or risk the investments of Igbos living in the North, which according to him, is worth over N45 trillion in three states alone.
Strongly condemning the “provocative utterances” from Northern groups, OYC called on the federal government not to treat the threats with levity but to quickly commence treasonable proceedings against them “before it is too late”.
