A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has congratulated the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari on his recent victory at the polls.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Omisore tasked the president-elect on Nigerian nationhood and unity, in spite of ethnic and religious plurality in the country.

“General Buhari and the APC will need to tap into the uniqueness of the Nigerian diversity to find the cord of unity that makes us one people and a great nation.

“The unity of Nigeria is central to the aspiration across all parties. Peace is essential for our development”, he said.

Noting that under President Goodluck Jonathan’s watch Nigeria made “great strides and development in all sectors”, Mr. Omisore urged Mr. Buhari to ensure “sustained guarantee of the freedom of information, of speech and of association is critical if the current level of success and achievement is to be sustained”.

“Going forward, militarized and autocratic styles of governance, autocracy and patronage will not serve us well”, he submitted.

Stating further, the PDP chieftain commended President Jonathan for the statesmanship he displayed by his timely concession of defeat.

“The developmental achievements of the Jonathan-led PDP administration in Nigeria will remain laudable and the footprints of President Goodluck Jonathan in ensuring accountable democratic governance will remain indelible in the history of Nigeria”, Mr. Omisore said.
