The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) plans to use operatives of the Amotekun Corps to influence the November 16 governorship election in the state.
In a statement by Ayo Fadaka, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the PDP governorship candidate, the opposition expressed concern over the recent appointment of Amotekun Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, as Chairman of the Security Committee for the APC campaign council.
The PDP claimed this move would mobilize Amotekun operatives as “thugs” during the election and vowed to resist the alleged plot.

“We take serious cognisance of actions the APC continues to take with a view to criminally compromise the November 16th election,” the statement read.
“The recent announcement of a Security Committee led by the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Chief Tunji Adeleye, points to this strategy.
Additionally, we are aware of thugs being stationed across the state, and we will provide security agencies with details of hotels and facilities being used.”
The PDP also alleged that the APC plans to create security disturbances in certain local government areas, intending to replicate tactics from their primary election.
In response, the APC denied the allegations, calling them baseless and asserting that Amotekun Corps is a professional entity with no involvement in political campaigns.
APC Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, refuted claims of a security committee in the Aiyedatiwa Campaign Council, stating, “The Amotekun Corps is dedicated to protecting the people, not engaging in politics.
The PDP’s accusations are merely distractions from their lack of preparation. We call on security agencies to investigate these claims thoroughly.”
