The Ondo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has dismissed its secretary, Jimmy Akinyan, over alleged indiscipline and anti-party activities.
The development was announced on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party held in Akure, the state capital.
According to the party, the decision was taken to enforce strict internal discipline and reposition the SDP as a credible opposition force in the state.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the state chairman of the party, Gbenga Akinbuli, said Akinyan was found guilty of “acts of sabotage during elections, insubordination, and financial misconduct.”
Akinbuli explained that the review of Akinyan’s conduct revealed grave violations that undermined the trust and unity of the party.
“In the wisdom of stakeholders, such behaviour cannot coexist with the principles of loyalty and ideological conviction which the SDP stands for,” the chairman said.
He added that a five-man disciplinary committee, chaired by the state legal adviser, had been set up to further probe the allegations and decide Akinyan’s continued membership of the party.
Meanwhile, Mr Femi Ikoyi has been appointed as the new state secretary.
“This is not just a disciplinary measure, but the beginning of a broader effort to purge the SDP of sabotage and infiltration,” Akinbuli stated.
“We are determined to build a party of conviction and loyalty, one that offers Nigerians a true alternative rooted in service to the people.”
