An aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said Atiku remains the only opposition politician capable of matching President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The aide argued that the former vice president’s political experience, national reach and support base make him a strong contender against the incumbent.
He warned that the opposition could lose its competitive strength if Atiku decides not to participate in the 2027 presidential race.
According to him, Atiku’s withdrawal would create a major vacuum within the opposition and could weaken efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The aide said the former vice president has remained committed to providing Nigerians with an alternative to the present administration.
He also urged opposition politicians to prioritise unity and work together ahead of the election instead of allowing personal ambitions to undermine their collective strength.
The aide maintained that the opposition needed a candidate with sufficient national acceptance and political experience to mount an effective challenge to Tinubu.
He called on opposition leaders and supporters to remain focused on building a strong political platform capable of winning the 2027 election.
The comments come amid ongoing consultations and realignments among opposition politicians as parties prepare for the next presidential contest.
