A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olasiji Olamiju, has warned party aspirants against engaging in ‘do-or-die’ politics as the 2026 gubernatorial election draws closer.
Olamiju, a former Special Adviser on Public Health to ex-Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, made the call in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday in Osogbo.
He stressed the importance of sportsmanship and party unity in ensuring the APC’s success at the polls.

“The large number of aspirants seeking the APC ticket is a testament to the party’s strength and the people’s desire for credible leadership in Osun,” he said.
“I urge all aspirants to prioritise party unity and rally behind whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer. Our ultimate goal should be to secure victory in Osun and contribute to President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.”
Olamiju emphasized that unity and a shared focus on the bigger picture were essential for the APC to fulfill its mandate in both the 2026 state election and the 2027 general elections.
“What should be paramount to every dedicated member of the party now is how to ensure victory in the forthcoming elections,” he added.
His comments come amid growing agitation within the APC for the 2026 governorship ticket to be zoned to Osun West Senatorial District.
However, APC National Secretary and gubernatorial aspirant, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has dismissed the zoning calls, stating that the party’s constitution does not recognize zoning as a criterion for candidacy.
