Commissioner for Information and Public Education in Osun State, Kolapo Alimi, has dispelled confusion on how the previous administration’s unpaid half-salary arrears will be settled.
The state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has claimed that Governor Ademola Adeleke has promised to pay all outstanding salary arrears within six months of assuming office. However, Alimi has stated that this is not the case.
Governor Adeleke was challenged by the Osun APC to fulfil a campaign pledge to settle all outstanding salary arrears within his first six months in office.

On Friday, the Information Commissioner made this announcement in Osogbo.
The Commissioner further noted that the current administration would continue to prioritise the well-being of civil servants, noting that Governor Adeleke and the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State have arranged for the payment of arrears.
In addition, he advised the public to ignore the APC and its well-documented antics, saying that the party’s current stance on the issue shows that it has lost touch with reality in the wake of its electoral setback.
“Yes, Governor Ademola Adeleke pledged to pay the arrears of half salaries, but he did not establish any time frame for the payment. The Governor has never promised to clear the debt in a few of months.
Since their gubernatorial election defeat, the APC has been busy spreading lies and half-truths. I’m not shocked, though; they’re in the opposition today. Please don’t mislead the public for political gain by appealing to their base emotions. Should they be talking now that Adeleke has paid for two months and they have not paid for anything in four years?
“This government already has an agreement with the NLC, there is already a modality on how the half salary arrears will be paid, and we are not going to renege,” the Commissioner said.
