The Osun State chapter of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has expressed its preparedness for the 2026 gubernatorial election, declaring its intention to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
This follows the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fixing August 8, 2026, for the Osun governorship election.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the NNPP State Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, the party described the announcement as a welcome development, adding that it was expected and would reshape the political landscape of the state.

“Now that the coast is becoming clearer, our party will begin a tour of every ward in Osun State to sensitise the citizens on the need to vote their conscience, not emotion,” Odeyemi stated.
He accused the PDP administration of governing with propaganda and vowed that the NNPP would offer a credible alternative.
“Our doors are open to everyone with good intentions for governing Osun. We will welcome such individuals with open arms and treat them equally with existing members,” he said.
He also hinted at possible alliances, stating, “We will ensure collaboration with any people-oriented political party that is ready to salvage our dear state from this government of nepotism.”
Reiterating the party’s earlier stance, Odeyemi declared: “The Osun 2026 gubernatorial election will be a funny and surprising game—one which we have never experienced in the state before.”
He urged all political actors to adhere to the rules of engagement and warned against inciting violence for personal gains.
Meanwhile, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, announced the dates for the Ekiti and Osun off-cycle governorship elections on Friday during the swearing-in of six newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja.
