State of Osun Women beneficiaries of the National Women Empowerment Fund (NAWEF) loans have been urged to make proper use of the fund for economic viability, as well as impacting their families and Communities at large on poverty alleviation.

The Wife of the Governor, State of Osun, Mrs. Sherifat Aregbesola stated this at a one-day capacity building training on financial literacy and loan management for the first batch of 200 authenticated beneficiaries of the National Women Empowerment Fund (NAWEF) organised by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the State of Osun Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, held at GMT Event Centre, Osogbo.

Mrs. Sherifat Aregbesola commended the Federal Government for its thoughtfulness and opportunity arranged for the Nigerian women at the grassroot level as well as putting the State of Osun as one of the pilot States. She also appreciated the organisers of the training workshop meant to boost the capacity of women in the State on how to prudently and profitably manage the fund that will soon accrue to them.

The Wife of the Governor, State of Osun, Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola who was represented by the wife of the Chief of Staff, State of Osun, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola maintained that the financial intervention programme came in at a good time when many of the women would be able to deploy the fund to further enhance their economic well being and that of their families.

Speaking at the programme, the Iyaloja-General, State of Osun, Alhaja Awawu Asindemade in her goodwill message advised the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously and make sure they repay it as and when due for others to benefit from it.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Hon. Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Alhaja Latifat Giwa stated that National Women Empowerment Fund (NAWEF) is one of the social intervention programmes of the Federal Government, specifically designed to empower grassroot women operating in an informal business, by giving loans to beneficiaries to start or scale up their businesses with repayment schedules that are much easier and less stringent when compared to that of conventional banks.

Alhaja Latifat Giwa further stressed that, the training programme on financial literacy and loan management organised for the first batch of beneficiaries of National Women Empowerment Fund is highly imperative to sustain the viability of the programme.

Highlight of the programme was the technical session taken by Mr. Anthony Udah of Messrs Firm and Consultants Limited for the selected 200 authenticated beneficiaries.
