Department of State Services (DSS) agents in Makurdi have reportedly detained Mr. Bemgba Iortyom, the publicity secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State.
According to information acquired by InfoStride News, Iortyom was apprehended on Monday when he showed up for a scheduled meeting with the state security agency.
The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, petitioned for the party spokesman’s arrest, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Mr Cornelius Hwande, a media consultant for the Benue PDP, claimed, “As soon as we arrived, at about 2:11 pm, two gentlemen walked up to us, claiming to be from the office of the Director and took Bemgba Iortyom away.”
Bemgba Iortyom, Publicity Secretary of the opposition party, and one of the most outspoken critics of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Benue State, was summoned by the DSS for questioning. This was a highly unusual move, as the DSS rarely invites anyone, much less the Publicity Secretary of an opposition party.
“And with the recent remarks by the incumbent Governor Hyacinth Alia, it is difficult not to link him with this sudden invitation of Mr Iortyom by the DSS and his imminent detention,” he said.
