The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a “party of political vampires” that thrives on inflicting “excruciating pain and hardship” on Nigerians.
The PDP, in a statement shared on its official X account, accused the APC of being a haven for “power-grabbers, treasury looters, and manipulators” focused on exploiting national resources for their own benefit.
The statement comes in response to the APC’s remarks on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who had previously suggested that the 2027 election would be a contest between the APC and the Nigerian people.
“The @OfficialPDPNig strongly condemns the APC’s attack on Governor Seyi Makinde @seyiamakinde of Oyo State for standing up for Nigerians who are enduring untold hardship under the APC administration,” the statement read.
The PDP described APC’s response as “reckless, insensitive, and a reprehensible display of arrogance in failure.”
The statement further accused the APC of being “jittery” as Nigerians, it claimed, have seen through what it described as the ruling party’s “lies, subterfuge, falsehood, suppressive policies, and crass incompetence.”
The PDP praised Governor Makinde as an “effective leader” whose efforts in Oyo State reflect his commitment to development, democracy, and opposition to what the PDP termed the APC’s “one-party state agenda.”
Highlighting the current state of the country, the PDP criticized the APC for living in an “alternate reality” by claiming Nigeria is “on the cusp of prosperity” amidst widespread hardship.
The opposition party cited issues of insecurity, economic struggles, high unemployment, and rising poverty, accusing the APC of reversing the progress made under 16 years of PDP governance.
“It is preposterous that the APC believes it can continue to mislead citizens with false performance claims while it has failed on all fronts, reducing Nigeria to the poverty capital of the world,” the PDP stated, noting that over 100 million Nigerians struggle to afford basic necessities.
The PDP concluded by asserting that Nigerians will hold the APC accountable for its failures in the 2027 elections.
