A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Dingyadi, has urged Nigerians to refrain from placing the entire blame for the escalating insecurity in the North-West region on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Instead, he believes the primary responsibility lies with the governors of the region.
Dingyadi made this assertion while presenting a paper titled “Insecurity, Politics, and Democracy in Nigeria: A Reflection of Yesterday and Our Challenge Today” at a function organized by the Northern Coalition Group for Transparency and Justice in Kaduna.
He called on President Tinubu to hold the governors, particularly those in the North-West, accountable for their perceived lack of commitment in assisting the federal government and security agencies to end the prolonged issue of insecurity.

Dingyadi alleged that the governors’ attitudes and the constant bandit attacks in some areas indicated political motives at the expense of the lives and properties they swore to protect.
He accused some governors of abandoning their states, turning into “travel agents,” and relying on Zoom meetings and conferences while their constituents suffer from incessant attacks and kidnappings.
He criticized the governors for not effectively utilizing security votes and failing to implement solutions learned from their travels to developed countries.
Dingyadi also questioned the governors’ absence from regional northern governors’ forum meetings and their reluctance to put politics aside to collectively address the insecurity issue.
Highlighting the efforts of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, during his tenure as Governor of Zamfara State, Dingyadi noted that bandits were previously unable to attack local government headquarters.
However, he emphasized that the situation has worsened, with around 20-30 bandit enclaves currently in Zamfara State.
