Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday reaffirmed the party’s unity despite recent leadership changes, during a governorship rally in Ondo State.
Addressing party faithful, Governor Adeleke, who chairs the Ondo State Governorship Campaign Council, emphasized that the PDP remains a united family.
He disclosed that party leaders have met to ensure unity and respect for the PDP’s constitution, urging members to turn out en masse for the party’s candidate, Agboola Ajayi, in the upcoming election.
The affirmation was contained in a statement issued by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo on Tuesday.
“Go out and cast your votes for Agboola. PDP remains one and the only alternative for a better today and tomorrow for the people of Ondo,” Adeleke urged the electorate.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State echoed the message of unity, calling on Ondo residents to vote for the PDP candidate as a show of support for good governance.
He described the PDP as a resilient party capable of delivering the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed, also addressed the rally, dismissing reports of divisions within the party.
He assured the public that the PDP is stronger and more cohesive.
“There is no faction in the PDP. We are one. You can see how we are demonstrating love and unity. We are putting our house in order,” Mohammed said.
Acting PDP Chairman Usman Damagun also called on voters to support the party’s candidate, underscoring the PDP’s commitment to the welfare of the people.
Former Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to safeguard democracy by ensuring free and fair elections nationwide.
Egwu reminded the president that, as Nigeria’s leader, Tinubu has a responsibility to resist any temptation to misuse federal power.
“Democracy thrives when the people’s will is allowed to prevail,” Egwu said, stressing the importance of impartiality in the electoral process.
The Ondo State governorship election is set to be a critical test of the PDP’s resolve to maintain unity and reclaim political ground.
