The Buhari Media Organisation has blasted Peoples Democratic Party for taking opposition politics to a shameful level.
In a recent statement, the group said the reports of wasteful expenditure and stolen funds of about N14tn under the President Muhammadu Buhari government was another of the PDP’s normal nonsense.
The PDP had earlier asked the Buhari Presidency to order an investigation into where N9tn ($25bn) allegedly stolen in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the corruption allegations of N2.6 tn in oil subsidy regime, and N40bn allegedly looted from internally displaced persons’ fund, are.
The statement read, “President Buhari’s administration is light years better than the 16 years of misrule of the PDP.
“Since 2015, President Buhari has shown commitment to fighting corruption and this has manifested in the policy implementation of the Bank Verification Number, the Treasury Single Accounts and the whistleblower policy.
“The PDP’s latest claim is just a rehash of what this same party put out in a statement in August last year and in May this year when it demanded an explanation from President Buhari on an alleged N9tn contract said to have been awarded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
“The N9tn issue had been addressed by the Managing Director of the NNPC when he argued that it is inappropriate to attach arbitrary values to shortlisted prospective off-takers of crude oil and suppliers of petroleum products because whatever value is placed on the off-taking goes directly into the federation account.
“Kachikwu had also, as far back as October 2017, clarified that the issue had more to do with governance, and not fraud at the NNPC.
“On the allegations of N2.6tn oil subsidy regime, we all know the global slump in the price of crude oil affected the price of refined petrol, and in the light of fuel queues in 2015, the National Assembly told the NNPC to do what it takes to alleviate the sufferings of the people which it did by dethroning the fraudulent subsidy regime where few handpicked marketers inflate claims of subsidy.”
“We would like to remind the PDP that unlike the 16 years of non-action regarding refineries, the Buhari administration’s policies have brought private sector investors like Dangote Group which is currently building a 600,000 barrel capacity refinery, alongside other refineries coming on stream in the next two years.
“We would also like to remind the PDP that there is still a House of Representatives report of how the PDP administration spent $16bn on power with no power in sight.
“Also, we call on the PDP to tell Nigerians why a former CBN Governor who blew the whistle on $20bn allegedly withdrawn from the nation’s treasury was sacked.
“In spite of these, PDP has continued to raise the claims to tar the integrity of the Buhari administration with the hope that, if you give a dog a bad name, like mud it would stick.”
