Ahead of the October 19 local government elections, several members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State.
The defectors were officially welcomed by the APC on Sunday in Yagba West Local Government Area.
Speaking during the reception, Kogi State Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr.
Joseph Oluwasegun, highlighted the achievements of the APC in the state, asserting that the party deserves to win the upcoming council elections.
Oluwasegun dismissed the relevance of opposition parties in the state, predicting an easy victory for the APC. “APC is Kogi, and Kogi State is APC.
The large number of decampees today is a clear indication that our party has been widely accepted by the people, given our tremendous impact over the past eight years,” he said.
He expressed confidence that APC candidates would secure a landslide victory in the October 19 elections, attributing the expected success to the accomplishments of Governor Ododo’s administration.
“I urge the people of Yagba West to come out en masse and vote for the APC.
It is only our party that can deliver the true dividends of democracy to the people,” Oluwasegun stated.
He assured the new members that they would be treated equally, enjoying the same privileges as existing party members.
