Rivers State Government has dismissed allegation that it was broke. State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, said the state had continued to meet its financial obligations despite the shortfall in its allocation from the Federation Account.
.
Meantime, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has insisted in a statement, that the state was broke.
.
State Chairman of the party, Mr Felix Obuah, speaking through his media aide, Mr Jerry Needam, said the state image maker, Mrs. Semenitari was merely putting up brazen denial on the issue.
.
The party said that the alleged lean financial position of the state had led to collapse of several sectors of the government and its agencies.
.
The statement said, “The PDP among others wants Mrs. Semenitari to explain why the state government still owes officers and men of the State Transport Management Agency, TIMARIV, for about six months, the newly recruited 13,000 are also owed six months’ salary.”
.
The party wondered why officials of the Rivers State Government would continue to deny facts that are available at the door post of the people, saying a responsible government should be courageous enough to tell its citizens the truth at least on the affairs of the state.
