The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not collapse despite its lingering internal crisis.
Wike gave the assurance on Monday evening while hosting a meeting of critical party stakeholders under the banner of ‘Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP.’
In attendance at the meeting were former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State. Also present were the National Secretary of the PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Senate Minority Leader, Philip Aduda, serving and former federal and state lawmakers, as well as some zonal and state party executives.

Addressing the gathering, Wike said the ‘Concerned Stakeholders’ group comprises individuals who remain committed to the survival and progress of the party beyond mere public statements.
“All of you here are those who are committed to the survival of our party, not just talking on television or in newspapers but working at various levels to sustain the PDP,” he said.
The former Rivers State Governor also praised the role played by the G5 Governors in stabilizing the political atmosphere during the 2023 general elections.
“Today, this country is stabilized because of the activities of the G5 Governors. You may like us, you may hate us, but the truth remains that if the G5 had not taken the decision we did, this country would have been in crisis,” he said.
Wike emphasized that the stance taken by the G5 was necessary, irrespective of who benefitted from it, stressing that they would stand by that decision.
“If the party had listened to what we said, we wouldn’t be where we are today. We have consistently reminded the party to respect both its constitution and that of the country.
“As an opposition party, we cannot continue to act with impunity. No opposition party behaves that way. Our duty is to continue reaching out, to reconcile and bring members together, not to push them away,” he stated.
Wike warned against greed and personal ego, saying they must not be allowed to destroy the party.
“Let us not allow greed or ego to kill our party,” he added.
