The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, has slammed the Peoples Democratic Party for saying the APC had reversed its accomplishments in its 16-year rule.
Rising from their meeting in Akure, on Wednesday, South-West leaders of the PDP said the ruling APC had not demonstrated the capacity to resolve the economic challenges facing the country.
In a statement issued on Thursday, however, Igbokwe said the legacies the PDP left were corruption and poverty.
Igbokwe asked the South-West PDP leaders to list “the woeful legacies that led to the total rejection of the PDP by Nigerians last year.”
He said, “We wonder what legacy a failed and corrupt party like the PDP is talking about if not the legacy of corruption, shameless looting, infrastructural wreckage, ineptitude, decay, disease and hunger.
“If a ruined economy and infrastructure collapse were the reversed legacies of the PDP, then it is good riddance. One question that Nigerians have been asking is if anything good can ever come from a PDP that in its 16 whole years of rule, notoriously looted the country’s treasury and left every sector of the Nigerian economy bare.
“If in 16 years and with oil averaging over $100 per barrel, the PDP presided over the total ruination and bankruptcy of the country, we have no doubt that its legacies are only the negative fallouts of its corrupt acts which brought Nigeria to its knees.”
The APC urged the PDP to focus its energy on serious soul-searching rather than crying over spilt milk having been rejected by Nigerians during the last general election.
Igbokwe said for the PDP to redeem its image, the party needed to seek forgiveness from Nigerians and stop making spurious claims of achievements.
