In response to ECOWAS’s efforts to end the ongoing leadership issue in the Niger Republic, the country’s military junta has cut ties with Nigeria.
According to Infostride News, ECOWAS has given the military junta seven days to bring back deposed President Mohamed Bazoum.
The Nigerian president, Bola Tinubu, dispatched a powerful delegation to meet with the coup leaders on Thursday.
Niger has broken connections with Nigeria, Togo, France, and the United States, according to Daily Trust, which also adds that the team led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) only met with officials of the junta.
The publication reported that Radio France International had quoted one of the coup leaders as saying on national television, “The functions of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors of the Republic of Niger are terminated.” This statement was reportedly made to France, Nigeria, Togo, and the United States.
