Pebble unveiled two new smartwatches yesterday, Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2, on Kickstarter. The company also announced a new device outside of the wearable category, called Core.
Pebble 2 is the successor to the original Pebble, which has been around for almost three years. Pebble 2’s design is more or less similar to its predecessor but the company has embedded a heart rate monitor in the wearable device.
The smartwatch’s display screen size (diagonal) is 1.26 inches; it also features Gorilla Glass. Similar to the original Pebble, the battery life spans to almost seven days. Currently only available on Kickstarter for $99, Pebble 2 is expected to be available in retail stores worldwide in September.
The Pebble Time 2 packs feature similar to that of Pebble 2. Time 2 has a steel body, which resembles Pebble Time Steel. Time 2 can be purchased from Kickstarter for $169; it is rumored to be priced at $200.
Time 2’s display screen is bigger and offers higher resolution as compared to the previous variants. The device’s battery lifespan goes up to almost 10 days; it is expected to ship to retail stores in November.
Pebble’s new release, Core, continues to receive a significant amount of attention from customers. It is essentially a small box that connects users with the Internet. Core can be attached to key chains or simply carried in a pocket. The device’s most useful feature is its ability to load up a user’s smartwatch with Spotify. Priced at $69, Core packs four GB of internal storage, GPS, and 3G connectivity. It can also perform some basic tasks such as hailing an Uber ride. The company claims that Core can last up to nine hours while running GPS and Spotify.
