Pep Guardiola was lucky to remain Manchester City manager during his poor first season in charge at the Etihad, according to Maurizio Sarri.
In his first season as City manager Guardiola saw his team concede four goals in away losses to Leicester and Everton, and Sarri was questioned in his press conference on Friday why he could get the sack and Pep Guardiola didn’t.
His words, “Because he (Guardiola) was lucky,”
“I don’t know. You have to ask the club. You have to ask both, Manchester City and Chelsea.
“But I don’t know if I am under pressure from my club or from you. I don’t know at the moment.
“I think that, if you choose Guardiola, you have to wait because the club knows very well that Guardiola needs time. It’s not really very easy for an English team to play that kind of football, so it’s normal.
It’s important to win the final. Otherwise you are second. I think it’s very important for us because we have to find the confidence. We are in the first final of the season.
“At the end, we are one point from the top four, the same points as Arsenal, and (people say) Arsenal are doing well, so we are doing a little bit better because we are in a final, and yet our season is a disaster.
“I don’t understand… I want you to remember that, last season, this team gained 70 points, not 100. Then, in the summer, we changed everything. So there is another problem to solve. So it is not easy.”
