Plateau State Police command has requested for more personnel and vehicles for reinforcement to enable it to tackle incessant killings, maiming and destruction of property despite the imposition of curfew.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nasiru Oki said the hostility in the council areas between the Fulani and the natives was an age long crisis that seems to have defied solutions. However, he said that the command was determined to put an end to it.
“It is an age long quarrel between the Fulani and Berom people, the crisis has been on for a very long time, and we are trying to see how we could end it. That is why we’ve requested for more men. I have told the Inspector General of Police my requirement and I have discussed the situation and the challenges I am facing with the IG. I know he will give me enough men that would take care of the situation. With regard to vehicles, the IG so far, apart from the vehicles he had given us before now, has added ten more vehicles and I am still expecting more,” Oki said.
“We are also trying to dialogue with the Fulani and the Berom to see reason why they should not quarrel or they should go to court if they have any axe to grind,” he added.
