The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two high-profile suspects linked to a string of cyber and financial crimes, including a $210,000 investment scam and a ₦452 million charity fraud scheme.
The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja.
According to the statement, the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja coordinated separate operations leading to the arrests of Robert Harms, a Canadian national, and Ms. Okeke Ogechi Njaka, a Nigerian citizen.
Harms was apprehended for allegedly defrauding Tepison Enterprises, a company based in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, in a fraudulent investment scheme. The company had filed a petition after Harms, introduced to them through a Polaris Bank account officer in June 2023, convinced them to invest $210,000 in a fictitious Waste-to-Energy Project in Canada.
“He promised a $30,000 return within four weeks and requested the amount to secure a fabricated ‘capital project bond,’” the statement revealed.
In a separate case, INTERPOL also re-arrested Ms. Okeke Njaka, who is facing multiple cybercrime charges, including cyberbullying, cyberstalking, obtaining money under false pretenses, cheating, and criminal breach of trust.
Her case, originally initiated in September 2020, followed a complaint by Hajia Maryam Shehu, represented by M.I. Tsav & Co., a law firm based in Abuja. Investigations revealed that Njaka used various social media platforms to harass and extort victims, including sharing explicit images and videos without consent.
Njaka was declared wanted via a Special Police Gazette Bulletin in 2021 and was first arrested in Anambra State on January 4, 2025. However, she absconded after jumping administrative bail.
“Persistent intelligence-led efforts led to her re-arrest on May 8, 2025, at her hideout in Abuja,” the statement added.
She is scheduled to be arraigned before the Federal High Court on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
The Nigeria Police reiterated its commitment to tackling cybercrime and bringing perpetrators to justice through intensified investigations and international collaboration.
