Operatives of the Imo State Police Command’s Quick Intervention Unit have arrested a 36-year-old woman on allegations of child trafficking.
The police also successfully rescued two children suspected to have been stolen from Anambra State.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the arrest was made during an intelligence-driven operation on November 20, 2024, in Amajeke, Owerri.
Okoye confirmed that the rescued children have since been reunited with their families.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to her involvement in child trafficking. She revealed that she worked with a syndicate based in Onitsha to whom she sold stolen children.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect admitted that her primary targets were children of unsuspecting parents in Anambra and Imo States.
ASP Okoye reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating human trafficking and related crimes.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
Together, we can protect our children and ensure a safer community for all,” the statement read.
