The Kano State Police Command has warned the public, particularly youths in the state, against wild celebration of victory during the forthcoming gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Idris, gave the warning while briefing newsmen after his meeting with stakeholders in Kano on Thursday. According to him, any person who failed to abide by the order would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“Such behaviours contravene the traffic laws, therefore, people should be conversant with traffic rules and regulations,” Idris said.

According to him, seven persons were killed and 50 persons injured while celebrating after the announcement of results of presidential and National Assembly elections in the state. He therefore called for caution during such celebrations.

Idris also urged the electorate to avoid taking polythene bags or any object to the polling units, adding that anybody who failed to heed the order would not be allowed access into the polling area.

“The ban on quasi-security agencies not to wear uniform is still on as anyone found would be arrested and prosecuted,” he added.
