The Nigeria Police Force has announced the successful foiling of a terrorist attack on the Jakana Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the attack, which occurred on November 28 at about 1:00 a.m., was met with strong resistance from police operatives.
“The resistance left many of the attackers with varying degrees of bullet wounds, while a police officer sustained injuries and is currently responding to treatment,” Adejobi said in the statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.
In another development, police operatives in Sokoto State, in collaboration with other security agencies, raided several black spots and bandits’ camps on November 25.
Adejobi disclosed that the operation, aimed at dismantling the camps, led to the recovery of several AK-47 rifles and magazines loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition.
He added that occupants of the camps fled on sighting the operatives, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Similarly, in Delta State, police operatives intercepted and engaged suspected kidnappers in a gun duel on November 28, following a report of an attempted kidnapping in Asaba.
“The operatives overpowered the suspects, forcing them to flee into a nearby bush with sustained bullet injuries,” Adejobi said.
A search of the suspects’ operational vehicle led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action guns, one AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of AR live ammunition, and 21 rounds of live cartridges.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the gallant efforts of the operatives for their bravery, steadfastness, and commitment to duty.
He urged officers to remain vigilant and continue to thwart criminal activities across the country.
