The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated that the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts and bangers remain prohibited as residents prepare for the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the loud sounds generated by such items could easily be mistaken for gunshots or explosions, thereby causing fear, panic and unnecessary tension among the public.
Babaseyi warned that anyone found causing public disturbance, injury or damage to property through the use of fireworks would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

According to him, the police have put in place comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state during the festive period.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed area commanders, divisional police officers and all tactical units to intensify patrols and increase police visibility in residential areas, markets, motor parks, places of worship, hospitals and along major highways.
“The command reminds members of the public that the ban on the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts and bangers remains in force,” the statement said.
“Parents and guardians are advised to caution their children and wards against the use of fireworks, as anyone whose actions cause public disturbance, injury or damage to property will be apprehended and prosecuted according to the law,” it added.
While urging residents to celebrate peacefully, obey the law and cooperate with security agencies, the commissioner encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines: Gateway Shield (toll-free) 0800 000 9111, and emergency numbers 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369 and 0708 497 2994.
