The Commissioner of Police in Kogi, Mr Usman Yakubu, on Monday confirmed the arrival of a 50-member police special strike team in the state over incessant crises.
Yakubu told newsmen in Lokoja that the special force was deployed from Police Headquarters in Abuja on Sunday in fulfilment of the promise of the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris.
He said that the team was sent to boost the ongoing clamp down on kidnappers and armed robbers who had held the state and its people to ransom for many months.
Yakubu said that members of the special squad had been deployed to different parts of the state.
According to him, the arrival of the team to join forces with their colleagues on ground will go a long way in scaling down kidnapping, armed robbery and other crimes.
He said that his command had mapped out strategies to provide maximum security before, during and after the Eid-el–Fitri celebration.
He appealed to members of the public to be more vigilant and be ready to assist the police with useful information.
