Growth was driven by both an increase in transaction volume, as well as the addition of five new customs brokerage clients.
CEO Jonathan Robinson reported that the company’s transaction volumes grew by 30 percent in the last year, resulting in a total of 700,000 customs transactions processed. Additionally, five new customs brokerage accounts and a new carrier account were added last year.
An increase in audits at the border, as noted in The Financial Post, has forced a greater focus on accuracy in customs documentation. This has proven to be a significant growth driver for Portway International. “With audits on the rise, accuracy in reporting is more important than ever for customs brokers and carriers,” says Robinson. “Our reputation for exactitude and our 99 percent accuracy rate have helped retain our present clients and attract new ones.”
Furthermore, the unprecedented snow and cold this winter has contributed to both growth and retention. “Snow and ice have caused significant carrier delays, which have increased the demand for 24-hour customs brokerage services,” Robinson states. “There have also been several occasions on which a client’s staff has been unable to travel to their office due to icy road conditions. Robinson forecasts that revenue will increase by another 30 percent this year based on the growth of import volumes from existing customs brokerage and carrier clients, as well as the addition of new client accounts.
