The Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo has said that all seems to be set for the commissioning of the solar-powered electrification project in Durumi, a surburb of Mpape in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja.
He identified the project as part of the “Light – up Nigeria Initiative” which is managed by the Power Ministry in conjunction with the Schneider Electric of France and Philips of Netherlands, pointing out that it has changed the phase of the rural economy in Durumi village located distances away from Abuja.
While talking during an on – the – spot assessment of the project recently, the Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo in the company of the Special Adviser to the President on Project Monitoring, Sylvester Monye quizzed the community on their state of mind over the presence of the project in their community. In their response the members of the community unanimously expressed appreciation to the government for locating the project amongst them.
Chinedu Nebo also urged the community to protect the equipment so that vandals would not cart them away; assuring that the President is committed to the welfare of Nigerians as evidenced in the massive infrastructural projects engaged across the country to boost up socio-economic activities in the rural areas. He informed them that it is time for the President to commission the project, while expressing satisfaction for its status.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the President on Project Monitoring, Sylvester Monye uttered delight for the project and urged the community to support the President to transform Nigeria.
A release from the Power Ministry has indicated that with the project, the rural economy of Durumi has been transformed beyond imagination. Scores of children, women, traders and men are going about business activities, happily. The village square and the streets leading to the palace, clinic and Primary Healthcare Centre have all been energized with street lights.
“About one thousand and five homes which amount to 95% of the residents have been identified to be already benefitting from the project’s electricity supply. Equipment is also on ground to link the yet to be installed homes,” it declared.
