ABUJA (Power Ministry Report): As part of efforts to encourage the diversification of the economy to the non-oil sector, the effective development and growth of the power sector must be strengthened as a means of guaranteeing seamless transition,” Godknows Igali told participants at the meeting with the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Investment Promotion Council lately.
This was the position of the Permanent Secretary, Power, Godknows Igali when he met with the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Investment Promotion Council (NIPC), Mrs. Uju Hassan Baba, in Abuja, today.
Godknows Igali, who is the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Power informed that the NIPC as a key stakeholder is part of the dream of government to build a robust power sector. He stressed that this can only be realized through inter -agency collaborations and enjoined the NIPC boss to reduce the time – frame for processing permit and licenses by would-be foreign investors. He explained that as the gateway to direct foreign investment in Nigeria, the role of NIPC is very important to the power sector.
The Permanent Secretary urged the NIPC Executive Secretary, Uju Hassan Baba to use her position to give necessary encouragement and opportunities for investors to come and invest as Nigerian government expects much from its agencies towards the realization of greater access to power by Nigerians.
Earlier in her remarks, the NIPC boss in setting the agenda for the meeting, reiterated the readiness of her agency to partner with the Ministry of Power because of its importance to national development. He also observed that the relationship between the NIPC and the Ministry of Power has become even more inter-twined as the sector is in its cruising level of privatization. She assured that her agency will remove all impediments in the way of investors, stressing that NIPC under her watch will work towards implementing its mandate to the letter.
