President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Falcons following their remarkable comeback victory over hosts Morocco to clinch the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title — their 10th continental crown.
In a pulsating final held on Saturday night at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Nigeria overturned a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Atlas Lionesses 3-2, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football.
The Moroccans had stunned fans by taking the lead with first-half goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanna Mssoudy.

However, the resilient Falcons roared back in the second half with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and a late winner from substitute Jennifer Echegini to seal the dramatic victory.
President Tinubu, reacting to the win via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, praised the determination and fighting spirit of the team, describing their performance as quintessentially Nigerian.
“They chose to accept this mission. They understood the assignment. Our Superior Super Falcons delivered in true Nigerian fashion. Never say Never,” the president posted.
“They went. They saw. They have conquered again! 10-time champions of Africa,” he added.
The President is expected to host the victorious squad upon their return to Nigeria, where further celebrations and national recognition await the team and their technical crew, led by head coach Justine Madugu.
This triumph marks another milestone for the Super Falcons, who continue to stand as the most successful team in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
