In a recent address at the Nigerian Air Force Officers Mess’ Honorary Members Forum (HMF) 2023 Annual Lecture in Lagos, former Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, expressed that President Bola Tinubu’s intervention is unwarranted in the ongoing political crises in Ondo and Rivers states.
Fashola, over the weekend, emphasized that the constitution does not provide room for such presidential involvement.
Despite mounting calls for the president to step in, Fashola highlighted that the Constitution distinctly delineates proper procedures and the roles of officials in handling such situations.

Commending the “blue-blood Ondo indigenes” who advocated for law and constitutionality during their state’s recent crisis, Fashola noted that they represented a minority but played a crucial role in restoring calm, as indicated by the governor’s subsequent letter.
Looking forward, Fashola urged the “leadership in Rivers State” to similarly “do the needful” in addressing the ongoing political challenges.
Highlighting the importance of citizen accountability, Fashola cautioned against improperly demanding presidential action, stating, “We have amended the constitution, so what is left to amend, except ourselves?”
This call for self-reflection underscored his message that effective governance relies on both constitutional adherence and individual responsibility.
