PRESS BRIEFING BY THE CORDINATOR, NIC AT THE NATIONAL BRIEFING CENTRE, ABUJA ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 04, 2014

Preamble
Gentlemen of the Press, you are welcome to today’s briefing session. I wish to commend your conduct and patience with us during the past session and urge you to continue in that light.

1. Police Enlightenment Campaign on Counter-Terrorism.
As part of measures aimed at checking the activities of insurgents in parts of the country, the Nigeria police has commenced a counter-terrorism campaign towards assisting the citizens in ensuring effective security in their neighborhoods’.

Accordingly, pamphlets and other materials have been produced and circulated to assist people get adequate information and better understanding of the activities of terrorists. In addition to useful security tips, the pamphlets contain telephone numbers with which Nigerians can reach out to the police and other security agencies. The pamphlet has been translated into major Nigerian languages for wide circulation.

2. Distribution of Relief Materials in the Affected Communities in Northern Nigeria
i. The Federal Government efforts at reaching out to affected communities in the North East have achieved some results following the successful delivery of relief materials by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
ii. The agency has visited Chibok, Gamboru, parts of Yobe State and gas also visited Kano and Jos with relief materials and is currentl mobilizing for Mubi, as well as Kalabalge, among others. We appeal to spirited individuals and cooperate organizations who wish to donate relief materials to get in contact with this Centre and/or NEMA immediately or reach the following phone numbers: 08022556362; 08032003555.

iii. CHIBOK
We wish to assure Nigerians that efforts are on going to rescue the girls and it would not be in the interest of operations to disclose every detail, but be4 assured that citizens will be briefed appropriately as developments unfold in this regard.
