The trial of the former Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc., High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has been adjourned to October 19, 2016 following the absence of the prosecution counsel.
According to reports, the trial was unable to hold on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions’ counsel, Rotimi Jacobs failed to show up.
The Edo high chief is being tried by the EFCC before Justice James Tsoho of a Federal High Court, Abuja over an alleged involvement in a N2.1bn fraud.
A defence counsel, Ifedayo Adedipe, had informed the court of Jacobs’ absence in court when the case resumed hearing saying the prosecution counsel had sent a message to inform the defence team that he was scheduled to appear in another case at the Appeal Court on the same day.
It was further reported that the information was also communicated to the lead counsel for the defence, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), earlier before the hearing.
Furthermore, it was gathered that the case was adjourned to October 19l, 2016 because the prosecution said it was taking the upcoming court vacation into consideration.
