Portugal international, Renato Sanches has been named the winner of the 2016 Golden Boy Award beating Nigerian duo, Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi.
The Golden Boy award is for a young player in Europe considered to be the best among his peers in a calendar year.
It has been a hugely successful year for the midfielder who became the youngest player to win the European Championships as Portugal beat France in the final to lift Euro 2016.
He was also 19-year-old was voted Young Player of the tournament.
Under the year in review, Sanches also signed for Bayern Munich from Portuguese side, Benfica.
He will be presented with a trophy at a Monte Carlo ceremony for this award that was decided by votes voted from journalists from 30 newspapers across Europe.
He beat Manchester United youngster, Marcus Rashford who came second in the vote and Bayern’s Kingsley Coman who is third.
Other players nominated include AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, Gabriel Barbosa, Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli, and Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele.
Manchester United forward, Antony Martial won the last edition while other previous winners include, Raheem Sterling (2014), Paul Pogba (2013), Isco (2012) Lionel Messi (2005), Cesc Fabregas (2006) and Mario Balotelli (2010).
