Resign honourably instead of seeking 2027 re-election, Kenneth Okonkwo tells Tinubu

Former Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has urged President Bola Tinubu to resign from office rather than seek re-election in the 2027 general elections.

Okonkwo, who spoke during a television interview, said stepping down would be a more honourable option than waiting for Nigerians to vote the President out of office.

He argued that the current administration had failed to meet public expectations, citing economic hardship, worsening insecurity and the rising cost of living as major concerns confronting Nigerians.

According to him, many citizens are struggling under the present economic conditions, insisting that the government has not provided the leadership required to address the country’s challenges.

Okonkwo maintained that if the President believes in democratic principles and has the interest of the country at heart, he should voluntarily relinquish power instead of seeking another term.

He also urged Nigerians to remain committed to the democratic process by participating actively in the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that the electorate would determine the country’s future through their votes.

The former Labour Party chieftain further called on opposition political parties to remain united and present a credible alternative capable of addressing the nation’s economic and security challenges ahead of the next general election.
