The Rivers and Bayelsa State Police Commands have commenced joint patrols and bush-clearing operations along the boundary between the two states as part of efforts to strengthen security and frustrate criminal activities.
The operation followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, aimed at denying criminal elements access to possible hideouts and routes used to carry out illicit activities.
The joint tactical teams carried out coordinated patrols and clearance operations around Igbogene, Okarki and Mbiama, covering bush paths and strategic access routes along the inter-state border.
The exercise was designed to identify and clear areas that could serve as hideouts for kidnappers and other criminal elements operating around the boundary.
The police said the operation was successfully conducted without any security breach, adding that the affected areas remained calm under heightened surveillance.
The joint operation is expected to strengthen cooperation between the two commands and improve security along the Rivers-Bayelsa border.
The police authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to sustained patrols and proactive security measures to prevent criminal activities and protect residents in border communities.
