Roberto Martinez Meets Jose Mourinho To Discuss Andreas Pereira

Jose MourinhoRoberto Martinez is considering calling up Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira for upcoming international friendlies, sources have said.

However, a source close to the playmaker said he still has his sights set on representing the Brazil national team and would turn down a chance to play for Belgium in the September friendlies against Scotland and Iceland in order to wait for a call from Brazil coach Tite.

Former Everton boss Martinez met United manager Jose Mourinho after the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory over Leicester City last Friday and the two spoke about Pereira, sources said.

Pereira was born in Duffel, Belgium, but he is also eligible to play for the Selecao as his parents are from Brazil. Pereira played for the Belgium under-15s, U16s and U17s before opting to represent Brazil at the U-20 World Cup in 2015.

He made his first-team debut with Manchester United during the 4-0 defeat to MK Dons in 2014, having been brought to the Old Trafford academy from PSV Eindhoven in 2011.

Pereira spent the last two seasons on loan to La Liga at Granada and Valencia respectively, but Mourinho has opted to keep him in the squad this season and included him in the starting lineup for the Premier League opener against Leicester.
