The Nigerian Army, on Thursday, decorated 47 senior officers with the rank of major general, urging them to redouble their efforts in addressing the country’s security challenges.
The promotion of the officers was approved by the Army Council on December 21, with 47 brigadiers general elevated to the rank of major general, and 75 colonels promoted to brigadier general.
The newly promoted major generals will be decorated at their respective units and formations.

Speaking at the decoration ceremony, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, commended the officers for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to national service.
He highlighted their exceptional leadership skills, strategic thinking, and deep understanding of military operations as key factors in their promotions.
Matawalle emphasized the invaluable contributions of the officers to the Nigerian Army and expressed confidence in their ability to continue serving the nation with honor and distinction.
He urged them to lead by example and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, congratulated the newly decorated major generals, describing their promotions as a reward for their hard work and dedication.
He stressed the army’s commitment to excellence and called on the officers to give their best, considering their new roles in policy formulation within the military.
The decoration of the 47 newly-promoted major generals underscores the Nigerian Army’s recognition of merit and dedication to duty, as well as its ongoing efforts to strengthen its leadership cadre in addressing security challenges across the country.
