The Angola Football Federation (FAF) has named Romeu Filemon as head coach of the senior national team for a two-year term.
The 49-year old replaces Uruguayan Gustavo Ferrin, who was fired following the failure of the Palancas Negras to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
According to FAF, the new coach will be entitled to a monthly salary of 3 million Kwanza (about 30,000 US dollars), and his major priority is to guide Angola to the next year’s Orange Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
“There is much work ahead, but we will seek to select the best players with proven experience to build a strong team” Romeu told the press at his unveiling last Thursday in Luanda.
The new trainer will be assisted by Jose Kilamba and Andre Makanga, Paxe Filho – Phyiscal trainer, John ‘Dodo’ Dombassi – goalkeepers’ trainer and Adriano Jonas – technical supervisor.
Romeu was previously in charge of the Angola U-20 team.
His first game will be a friendly against Mozambique on 5 March 2014 in Luanda.
