Cristiano Ronaldo is a major doubt for the UCL quarterfinal clash against Ajax after he was excluded from the Juventus squad to face Empoli tomorrow due to a muscular injury.
Ronaldo got injured half an hour into Portugal’s 1-1 draw with Serbia on Monday and will miss his third Serie A game in a row after being rested for the 4-1 win over Udinese and 2-0 defeat to Genoa.
Juventus coach, Allegri said the Portuguese star does not have enough time to recover and might miss the crucial UCL tie vs Ajax.
Allegri said, “We need to be prudent,”
“It’s best if he misses one game rather than two months of the season. We’re heading into the final stages of the season and there’s not much time to recover, and we’ve still got two Champions League games to play.
“Ronaldo will return when there is no longer any risk of a setback. He’ll undergo tests on Monday and we’ll take it from there. Obviously he’s a doubt for the first leg, and Cristiano knows full well that if he’s not fit, he won’t play because we cannot risk the season in just one game.”
