Four security guards were Tuesday arraigned in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court Abuja, for negligent conduct.
32-year-old Emmanuel Essien, Tarfa Gade, 37; Hamza Adamu, 27, and Emmanuel Udofia, 33, all attached as guards to Brains and Braces Ltd, Djibouti Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja were said to have connived and negligently abandoned their duty post, allowing armed robbers to invade the premises.
The prosecutor, Cpl Francis Tanko, told the court that on April 6, Mr Boluwati Adetayo, Marketing Manager of the company, reported the accused at the Wuse Zone 3 Police Station.
According to Tanko, at about 5 a.m., the armed robbers who were six in number, broke into the company’s office and stole a TV and a DVD player valued at N169,000.
Tanko informed the court that the robbers also stole a black Hilux Vehicle with Registration number YAB 637 JK which had since been recovered from them.
He said that the offence was contrary to sections 79 and 196 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Before adjourning the case until May 20 for hearing, presiding Judge, Mrs Binta Dogonyaro, granted the accused persons bail for N100,000 each with one surety each must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She said that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and deposit their passport photographs to the court’s registry.
